Everyone Has a Nickname. What's Yours?

Author: Tammy Doss

I am Nana and my husband is Popou! I’m the photographer and He is the entertainer. I document the moment, He tells the story. He likes a Full House, I Prepare for it. We both like to cook and enjoy family and friends and grand kids. We make a great pair because we are different yet have many of the same interests. We have been married for 36 years. YIKES! Just try that out! A story in itself!

It’s fun to have a Nickname. It may identify you with past friendships or current ones. My Father called me Stinky. Can you believe that? My middle brother was Spider and my other brother was well… we won’t go there. LOL.

Now… since I am writing a blog about the Job Shop let’s try to pull this together and get to the root causes of why we work hard, play hard and what names they will remember us by.

I have worked with my colleagues for many years and have enjoyed some fun and crazy times. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of the amazing and interesting interactions we have had over the years. I’m talking 23 years here of chatter and fun at The Job Shop for Me. Trips to NYC, Las Vegas and beyond!

With that in mind I think I’ll share with you my colleagues by their Nickname’s and favorite Song’s:

  • Liz – Nickname: Lizard – “Solid as a Rock - is what I would choose but she chooses otherwise - Rainbow by Kasey Musgraves. OR… Queen - We Are the Champions of the world. – can’t go wrong with any of these!

  • Jojo – Nickname: Jojo – Perfectly fitting. Because he doesn’t go by his given name of ????? – Love his song by the Beach Boys - God only Knows!

  • Ashley – Nickname: Ash Song - 3 Nights – Dominic Fike.

  • Michelle – Nickname: Pete - Song – Every Summertime by Niki or Butter by BTS! She really likes Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi (ha ha – inside joke)

  • Mike S – Nickname: Buttons - Buttons Button’s whose got the Buttons????? – Song: Running out of Time by Tyler the Creator– Very Creative Mike. You sewed it up!

  • Mike G – Nickname: Mike G – it really fits him! Song he loves is Flavor in your Ear by Craig Mack.

  • David - Nickname: Skippy – Did you know this was an Australian Kangaroo Character? And his favorite song is absolutely fabulous! Doctor My Eyes by Jackson Brown – doesn’t get better than that!

  • Gail – Nickname: Ninja G - Song: River Flows in You by Yiruma – Watch out for OUR very own Ninja!

  • Tammy – Nickname: Stinky or Nana – I love music so it was hard to pick but I like “You are So Beautiful to Me” by Joe Cocker or Your Precious Love – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – They have special meaning to me.

I think we can all agree that a good Nickname and a good song can take you to new, old and interesting places. When you are interviewing for a new position you may get some intriguing questions. Having a good sense of humor, a fun theme song or a good “Nickname” just may be Your ticket to a dream job.

One of my best friends – also my hairdresser is guy named HARLEY – now, wouldn’t that be a great conversation starter. And yes, he has a Harley Davidson motorcycle as well. The interesting part is that he is so much more than that. He is also a veteran, a father of five children, a great husband, a community activist, coaches his children’s soccer, volleyball and baseball teams and is an extremely interesting individual. Knows more music, has been to more concerts and traveled more than most people I know. He has the Name but you have a Nickname!!! Use it!

Keep your Nickname, favorite song, best vacation, most interesting teacher, hilarious memory, great movie, education and a fun story all close so that you can be a super interesting candidate when interviewing. WE at The Job Shop are here to help and show you the way to a new and prosperous career. Just call anytime and we will support your efforts. 1-415-227-8610.

Your Friends at The Job Shop,

Lizard, Pete, Ninja G, Buttons, Jojo, Skippy, Mike G, Ash and Stinky
