The World Health Organization refers to burnout as a “syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.” Symptoms include: a loss of energy, exhaustion, reduced productivity, and negative feelings towards one’s career.
If you are feeling like you might be burning out, here are some prevention suggestions:
Take vacations. Get out of your environment, and try going off the grid. A bit of time for yourself can help minimize stress.
Get lots of sleep. Lack of sleep often is the culprit to health and emotional stress.
Act. Don’t let your frustrations fester.
Build quality relationships. Having good relationships is vital to good health!
Work out. Exercise relieves stress, improves your health and helps to increase confidence.
Schedule free time during your work day. Take your breaks!
Practice gratitude. Start your day with finding something you are grateful for, or write in a gratitude journal.
Find a hobby. Finding something that you enjoy outside of work is helpful in finding life balance.
