SF Fringe Festival Opening Party

A party to celebrate the opening of the Fringe Festival.
The San Francisco Fringe Festival is the largest grassroots theater festival in SF. It’s held every September and offers dozens of unique performances.
The 2016 festival will be held from September 9 – 24. This entertaining festival never disappoints!
This year’s festival will present 150 performances by 35 Indie theater companies in the EXIT Theatreplex in downtown San Francisco, which consists of three intimate venues that seat between 36 and 80 people each.
This independent festival thrives on making their shows open to as many people as possible. This is why tickets for all shows no more than $12 (or $14.99 online in advance).
If you love the theater, but are looking for something more local or a little different, then I highly recommend checking out some of these shows.

The Crucible industrial art school‘s open house, Tools to Table, is a celebration, demonstration and exploration of the tools and techniques of making, creating and consuming food, drink and flames.
Admission is free and there will be discounts on Crucible art classes, and a Crucible-style picnic basket raffle.

Cocktail glasses made in our glass blowing department
Pedal-powered food making with a bicycle
A butchering demonstration on the main stage
Waffle making in our foundry with a special Crucible-designed sand casted waffle iron

There will be a local artist exhibition, including place settings designed by Crucible faculty and some of Oakland’s favorite small-businesses and home-grown food vendors onsite to educate and tempt your palates including:
Please note, open houses are open to the public and children are welcome. Parents of small children will need to pay special attention as this space does have rough edges.
Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival
Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco

From vanilla beans to caramel fillings, indulge in it all at the 21st Annual Ghirardelli Chocolate Festival. Come and experience Chocolate School, Chef Demonstrations, Ice Cream Eating Contests, chocolate vendors, and the popular Ghirardelli Chocolate Lounge.
Over 50 vendors generously donate sample-sized portions of their products to feature in the festival. While it’s a little expensive to actually sample some chocolate ($20 for 15 chocolate samples, which you can purchase in advance), you can let yourself indulge knowing your tickets will help raise money for Project Open Hand.

Oakland will once again host a Pride Parade kicking off at 10:30 am and an all-day Pride Festival (tickets are $10) from 11 am to 7 pm in Downtown on Broadway.
The Festival once again features four stages of live music, DJs and entertainment, plus community and family friendly activities. R&B artist, Deborah Cox will headline the festival, along with numerous other performers on the Main Pride Stage.
This year, they also have their Children’s Carnival and Fun Fair all day from 11 am to 4 pm. The Family & Children’s Garden is a safe and fun area for children of all ages, and their LGBTQ parents/caregivers at the Oakland Pride festival. The Garden will feature programs and activities specially designed for children and their family.
The Presidio, San Francisco

Off the Grid hosts a full season of Picnic at the Presidio from 11 am to 4 pm every Sunday through the fall at the Main Parade Ground Lawn.
Get ready for yummy offerings available for purchase from San Francisco’s favorite eateries and food trucks, a lively atmosphere and picnics on the lawn with a view of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Though we don’t know the details for 2016 yet; in past years, they’ve offered Mimosa and Bloody Mary drink kits, an onsite DJ, classic picnic amenities like bocce ball, as well as game rentals and activities from Sports Basement. Blankets and Adirondack chairs are available to rent for a complete picnic experience.
