“Westward” All Female Photography Opening Reception

The San Francisco Arts Commission Galleries (SFAC Galleries) is excited to present Westward, an exhibition that features Ten female photographers documenting and depicting the West from May 11, 2018 – May 10, 2019.
Curated by independent curator Ann Jastrab, Westward presents an opportunity to break away from patriarchal representations of the West and its historical association with Manifest Destiny, and offers an alternative vision of this region of the United States.
The exhibition features work by Christa Blackwood, Mercedes Dorame, Ingeborg Gerdes, Tomiko Jones, Kathya Maria Landeros, Jennifer Little, Kari Orvik, Mimi Plumb, Greta Pratt, and Donna J. Wan.
Exhibition is open to the public from 8 am – 8 pm.

The Donum Estate invites you to spend an afternoon engaging all of your senses as you experience our Estate grown, single vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay while exploring a world-renowned sculptural art collection set amidst Carneros’ natural setting.
Donum’s 200-acre Estate will be open for guests to taste wine from our current release of Estate Grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from our single vineyards while also enjoying nearly 30 sculptural works from internationally-acclaimed artists such as Ai Weiwei, Fernando Botero, Keith Haring and more. Local fare, live music, and a sweet treat will complete this sensory experience.
VIP guests will be given early access to the Estate starting at 10:30 am. Donum’s Winegrower, Anne Moller-Racke, will pour a brand new, limited release wine from inside the new Donum Home, a contemporary, hospitality space that just opened in the Fall of 2017. Before heading to the main event, VIP guests will also be able to view a new sculptural installation from Louise Bourgeois.

Annual Mother’s Day Rose Show

The San Francisco Rose Society continues its tradition with the annual Mother’s Day Rose Show at Golden Gate Park’s Hall of Flowers with a rose showcase in the exhibition hall.
Exhibitors show their judged and award-winning garden roses. It’s a wonderful opportunity to view the many types of roses, from hybrid teas, grandifloras, miniatures, David Austin roses, to old garden roses from the 19th Century.
After the show, roses will be available at 4pm with most available for a donation of $1 each. Won’t mom love that you got a deal?
Plus there will be rose arrangements and a rose photography show/competition.
Open to the family; bring your moms, cameras, questions, and love of beautiful flowers.
Treat your mom to a bouquet; show rose bouquets will be available with a donation to the SFRS after the show closes starting around 4pm

San Francisco’s favorite family picnic is back for 2018. Presidio Picnic brings together the best of the Bay Area food scene with the beauty of this national park site and views of the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Held on the seven acre Main Parade Ground lawn, this weekly community event features food and drink from more than 25 local vendors, food trucks & pop-ups.
But it’s not just about the grub; visitors can enjoy an ever-changing array of free activities including yoga classes, lawn games, a Presidio photo booth, free kids bike-riding lessons from the Presidio YMCA, and nature-based arts and crafts for kids in the Presidio Adventure Zone tent.
New for 2018 is a series of monthly cultural performances.

June 24: Alafia Dance Ensemble demonstrate the beauty of African Haitian dance
July 22: China Dance Theatre celebrates the rich heritage of Chinese ethnic and folk dance

Hot Bird: Oakland-based Nashville-style fried chicken and first-timer at Presidio Picnic
Little Green Cyclo: Vietnamese street food hits like garlic noodles and banh mi
Del Popolo: Neapolitan-inspired pizza from a wood-fired oven featuring local, artisanal ingredients
