The Bayview Opera House and NOW Hunters Point Present:

A Free Summer Circus Festival with Circus Bella and The Prescott Circus Theatre at NOW Hunters Point (@ the intersection of Cargo Way and Jennings St, SF)

Sunday July 26th 12pm-4pm

Circus Performances start at 1:45PM

Featuring Circus Performance, Fun Slide, Arts Activities, and Games

NOW Hunters Point, a project supported by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, located at the former Hunters Point Power Plant site, seeks to transform the industrial landscape into a dynamic activity center.  The Bayview Opera House (BVOH) is the Bayview’s community cultural center.  Together, on Sunday July 26th, the two organizations are delighted to present the Bayview Hunters Point’s 4th annual Summer Circus Festival featuring, among other things, Circus Bella and the Prescott Circus Theatre.

Doors to this family-friendly event will open at 12pm and event goers will be able to enjoy a myriad of activities from hobnobbing with stilt walkers and eating treats from local food vendors to riding the giant Fun Slide and playing circus games to art activities that engage the public in planning the future of the site.

The Circus performance begins at 1:45 pm, opening with the Prescott Circus Theatre, a non-profit organization aiming to empower and engage youth through circus and theater arts education. Prescott Circus Theatre offers circus instruction free of charge and almost exclusively to low-income children.  Prescott’s exciting young performers will demonstrate the physical circus skills, teamwork, cooperation, and grace under pressure that prepares them to succeed in school and life.

They will be followed by Circus Bella, an open air contemporary circus.  Circus Bella showcases static trapeze, rope walking, a 9-person juggling act, contortion, hula hoop, original clowning and more. The music is originally composed and directed by the highly acclaimed Rob Reich and draws from French Waltz, New Orleans Jazz, Klezmer, and American Circus March.  Circus Bells creates a one-ring circus that uplifts diverse audiences, engages community, and challenges its artists.

“By combining professional circus theater with youth development and education in a celebration that engages our whole community, this event embodies the mission of the Bayview Opera House,” says Barbara Ockel, Bayview Opera House’s executive director.  “Circus Bella’s expert acrobats and the Prescott Circus’ Theatre’s talented young performers will put on a spectacular show that the Bayview Opera House and NOW Hunters Point are proud to present. We are grateful to PG&E for offering us the opportunity to bring this event to the Hunters Point site”.

Liz Ogbu, Community Engagement Consultant adds “By hosting the circus festival at this location, we are once again able make this event accessible to residents living near the former Hunters Point Power Plant.  Last year we attracted over 650 youth and adults, many of whom experienced Circus Bella for the very first time.”

The goal of NOW Hunters Point is to transform the industrial landscape into a dynamic activity center that can be a place for environmental restoration and community renewal. About Circus Bella Circus Bella is an open air, one-ring circus featuring contemporary, high-level acts set to an original score performed by live musicians.
