Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour
Roxie Theater, San Francisco
9 PM, All Ages
$12
TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe & Kristen Stewart are just 2 of the highlights in this program where the real stars are filmmakers you didn’t know you came to see. Spot tomorrow’s feature filmmaking whiz-kid today.
The 2017 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour is a 95-minute theatrical program of seven short films selected from this year’s Festival, widely considered the premier showcase for short films and the launchpad for many now-prominent independent filmmakers for more than 30 years. Including fiction, documentary, and animation from around the world, the 2017 program offers new audiences a taste of what the Festival offers, from laugh-out-loud comedy to contemplative reflections of the world we live in.
Each year The Sundance Film Festival receives more than 8,000 short film submissions, selecting 60-80 to show. From that group, Sundance programmers curate a program of the best, the most unique and the awarded winners, to tour the US theatrically in selected independent art houses. 2017. 95 mins.

2018 San Francisco Tape Music Festival
Victoria Theater, San Francisco
5 PM, All Ages
Free
America’s only festival devoted to the performance of audio works projected in three-dimensional space, The San Francisco Tape Music Festival features four distinct concerts of classic audio art and new fixed media compositions by 30 local and international composers.
Hear members of the SF Tape Music Collective, along with guest composers, shape the sound live over a pristine surround system (24 high-end loudspeakers) with the audience seated in complete darkness.
It’s a unique opportunity to experience music forming – literally – around you.
The 2018 Festival’s first two concerts showcase the entire range of the “fixed media” artform.
The Saturday late-night show presents longer, “cinema for the ear,” and ambient tape pieces.
The Sunday concert features an entire concert of “audio postcards” and “sound walk” compositions. Throughout the festival, composers from the empreintes DIGITALes label will be highlighted.

Sunrise Hike
Kirby Cove, San Francisco
5:45 AM, All Ages
Free
Come and start the new year fresh – with a short hike down to Kirby Cove for a sunrise hike & intention setting. It’s the perfect backdrop to reflect on the year before, let go of anything weighing you down, and feel grateful for all the exciting unknowns in the year ahead. Bring a snack, a cup o’ joe & a journal to jot down your intentions for 2018. The organizer is going to bring some bubbles as well – no better way to exhale the old and make wishes for the new. After the hike down, she’ll say a few words, but feel free hang out, beach stroll, or head back. But you must take a turn or two on the rope swing to let out your inner child – it’s a blast and an epic photo op.
From the city, take US-101 N to Alexander Ave in Marin County. Take exit 442 from US-101. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for US-101 S/San Francisco. Drive to Conzelman Rd. and meet them in the car park area above Battery Spencer. They will follow the signs down to Kirby Cove Campground.

Punk Film Festival – East Bay Punk Story
San Francisco Library, San Francisco
2 PM, All Ages
Free
The San Francisco History Center’s S.F. Punk Archive presents a four-part film series that takes you from the chaos of contemporaneous footage to recent documentaries striving to illuminate a hidden history.
Ten short years after the ultimately disenchanting Summer of Love, San Francisco harbored a new counterculture united around unrepressed outrage and the rejection of hypocrisy. Punk erupted from the city’s dark cellars and dingy underage clubs but was snubbed by local press and radio. Self-made zines, handbills, Super-8 film, vinyl and video became the instruments for recording and disseminating this explosive movement.
FREE but an RSVP is required.
Join in for an entertaining and illuminating exploration of the birth of San Francisco’s original punk underground.
