SONY DSC

Welcome to Weekend Planner. Every Friday we put together a list of the weekend events we think look most interesting and provide them here. Keep in mind there is always a lot more going on, and all it takes is a little digging to find something that will be the perfect activity for you.

DNA Lounge, San Francisco, CA

Show – 8:30pm

The Devil in California: Where else would the devil be, really? California is paradise and a black hole all mixed into one — and The Devil in California seems to understand that. Classic southern-fried rock with a biker look, you know exactly what you’re going to get when you first see these guys: hard rock, attitude, impeccable musicianship, and low growing vocal that soars for emphasis. They’ve been playing shows for about a year now, and in that short time they have carefully crafted their fledgling band into a mystical, hard, and heavy rock band — playing shows throughout the bay. Catchy tunes mixed with some insane live energy is a recipe for success for any heavy rock band – for such a relatively new group The Devil In California are already so good at perfecting this, which leads me to believe they are seasoned veterans in rock and roll. If they’ve already done this much in one year, who knows what’s in store next! I have a guess: the band is debuting their new album tonight – so get ready for a fresh batch of rock and roll tunes from these rad dudes.

Saturday, Feb. 21

Lun_NY

Chinese Student Association, Berkeley, CA

6pm – 9pm

Members – $15

Non Members – $20

Kick off the Year of the Sheep by attending Chinese Student Association’s 3rd annual Lunar New Year Banquet on Saturday, February 21 from 6-9 PM at International House! This year, CSA has been working diligently with HKSA, BCSSA, ISAB, ThaiSA, and many more to bring you a wonderful evening filled with good food and performances. We are very thankful for our collaborators, as this event would not be able to happen without their help.

One of the best parts about Lunar New Year celebrations is the wide array of mouthwatering food, and we intend to provide lots of it. Get ready, because the buffet-style dinner will leave you in the most intense food coma of your life! But don’t you worry about dozing off, because we have a diverse lineup of performances that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the night. This year’s performers include, but are not limited to:

Berkeley Chinese A Cappella Fei Tian Dancers (UC Berkeley) Nikkei Choral Ensemble (NiCE) Theatre Rice! VSA Lion Dance Drawn to Scale SPECIAL GUEST: 汪定中Dean Wang

Finally, to make this a classy evening to remember (did we mention a photobooth?!?), please remember to come dressed in semi-formal attire! That means: dresses for the ladies, and dress shirts and ties (or suits, if you so please) for the gents. Our historian will be there to make sure everyone remembers how fabulous you look! If all of that didn’t convince you to reserve your spot immediately, every guest who comes will also be automatically entered into a drawing for one of six raffle prizes, along with special Lunar New Year party favors for everyone!

Pan Theater, Oakland, CA

8pm

$10

Pan Theater house teams perform two laugh out loud fun shows both Fridays and Saturday nights. Shows are 100% improvised. The cast for each set and each night rotates.

These shows are an event that can never be repeated. Each set begins with an audience prompt (suggestion). Each team explores the theme, topic or title through improvised theater techniques. Performers create characters, stories, scenes and monologues on the spot.

Pan performers create completely improvised moments of comedy, drama, excitment and fun.

Tickets are $10 for the evening. You can arrive at 8pm and stay for two shows or stop by at 9pm for our final set for the evening.

Either way, tickets are $10 for the evening.

Tickets are backed by Pan Theater’s Laugh Guaratnee.

If you don’t enjoy the show email us and we’ll gladly refund your ticket price.

SF_Mead

San Francisco Mead Company, San Francisco, CA

12pm – 1pm

Join Net Impact SF in visiting our favorite local meadery – San Francisco MEAD Company at their tasting room.

Bring your thirsty palettes and curious questions as we embark on a journey of honey wine. Ever wonder what is and how mead is made? Owners Oron and Sarah will shed light on their locally sourced ingredients, aged brewing approaches, and what makes their mead have a perfect balance of sweetness and flavor.

After a tour of their facilities, try the various concocted batches from the California Gold and Orange Blossom to their famous Apple Pie – a combination of cider, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

See SF Gate’s 2014 cover (http://www.sfgate.com/wine/article/Mead-makers-find-a-sweet-home-in-San-Francisco-5193985.php) of this up-and-coming establishment.
