Moon-Station

Welcome to Technology Tuesday! Every week The Job Shop Blog will bring you our 5 top science and technology news stories from around the web.

This week: Elon Musk releases his updated master plan for Tesla, the U.S. and Russia make plans to go to the Moon together, new technology for a glasses-less 3D movie screen, a new auto steel that’s 30% lighter and 25% stronger, and an engineered living hip that eliminates arthritis pain.

Elon Musk’s Master Plan 2.0

Tesla

Elon Musk has been in the headlines a lot over the past few years. A team from MIT’s CSAIL and Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science has just developed a way for audiences to enjoy a glasses-free movie experience in theaters.

A prototype display, developed by the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) together with Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science, lets audiences enjoy a 3D movie in a movie theater, minus those pesky 3D glasses.

The technology uses a special collection of lenses and mirrors that allow users to enjoy the 3D viewing experience from any seat in the theater.

“Living Hip” Grown In Lab Genetically Engineered to Stop Arthritis

hip-pain

Arthritis sufferers have been offered new hope after scientists grew a ‘living hip’ in the lab which not only replaces worn cartilage but stops painful joints returning.

Researchers in the US have used stem cells to grow cartilage in the exact shape of a hip joint while also genetically engineering the tissue to release anti-inflammatory molecules to fend off the return of arthritis.
