Q: What is your name? A: Victoria
Q: How did you originally hear about The Job Shop? A: I heard about The Job Shop after doing some searching on Google and reading reviews.
Q: Can you tell us a little about the permanent position you’ve been hired into? A: When I was hired permanently at Catholic Charities, the position was being rebuilt and I was told that I would have the opportunity to design the position according to what I was interested in doing and the skills that I possessed. Over time, I became more involved with the Refugee & Immigrant Services program and I continue assisting them on top of fulfilling my duties as receptionist.
Q: What do you think most contributed to your success in achieving a permanent position? A: I think it was a combination of my experience and my willingness to go beyond the required duties of my position.
Q: Do you have any tips for readers hoping to duplicate your success? A: Take advantage of every opportunity. When I signed up for a temp job through The Job Shop, I was not expecting it to lead to a permanent position; I just thought it was good to be working while I looked for something permanent. I didn’t know at the time that I would come to love working here as much as I do now.
Q: What did you find most helpful about working with The Job Shop? A: The best part about The Job Shop was that when I came to the first interview, they really took the time to talk with me about what kind of position I was looking for and how the companies they worked with could fit into my vision of my future career.
Q: What was most challenging about your job search, and how did you overcome it? A: At the time, the most challenging part was dealing with the rejection because I was hitting a low in my job search. I had many interviews where I had made it to the final round only to lose out on the opportunity and it was taking a toll. The best thing to do in that situation is to remain positive.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add about your experience? A: After being out of work for a while, working as a temp through The Job Shop gave me renewed confidence to re-evaluate my skills and take full advantage of the position at Catholic Charities.
