Profiling Success: Lora Pallatto

Q: What is your name? A: Lora Pallatto
Q: How did you originally hear about The Job Shop? A: A friend told me that the company she worked for used The Job Shop very successfully and that the people they sent out were competent.
Q: Can you tell us a little about the permanent position you’ve recently been hired into? Are you excited about it? A: I am very excited to be the Receptionist at a structural engineering firm in downtown San Francisco. I handle the phones, shipping and receiving, along with administrative support duties – typing, organizing.
Q: What do you think most contributed to your success in achieving a permanent position? A: Flexibility, reliability, and attention to detail.
Q: Do you have any tips for readers hoping to duplicate your success? A: Reliability goes a long way with a prospective employer. So does respect for the person / job you are filling in for. It is best to leave everything the way it is and not try to help the client “improve” their processes unless you are specifically asked to do so.
Q: What did you find most helpful about working with The Job Shop? A: I could always count on Jojo and Warren and Michelle to provide a good fill-in if I needed to be absent for any reason.
Q: What was most challenging about your job search, and how did you overcome it? A: I am over 60, so no matter how skilled or capable I may be, it has been hard for an employer to appreciate what I bring to the table until they see me perform well for an extended period of time and do a variety of tasks well.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add about your experience? A: I have met many kind and generous people in my temping days. It can be fun going to a new place now and then, but I am very happy to have a permanent position. I appreciate all the help I have received from The Job Shop. They’re absolutely the very best!
