Profiling Success: Angela Hughes

Q: What is your name? A: Angela Hughes
Q: How did you originally hear about The Job Shop? A: I found The Job Shop through a simple Google search.
Q: Can you tell us a little about the permanent position you’ve been hired into? A: I am currently a Receptionist for R/GA San Francisco. In addition to being a friendly presence and face of my office, I offer support to staff in any way I can. I am extremely excited to be a part of one of the most creative and innovative design agencies in the world, and look forward to growing within the company.
Q: What do you think most contributed to your success in achieving a permanent position? A: I think that a positive, optimistic outlook and my professionalism contributed greatly to landing an amazing job. As a temporary employee, you often feel like you aren’t a part of a company, or you’re only working to get a paycheck. The danger in that way of thinking is that if you can’t see yourself working somewhere, how can you expect to be offered a job? As I took on a number of jobs, I treated every single assignment like I played an important role and maintained my professionalism.
Q: Do you have any tips for readers hoping to duplicate your success? A: Be pleasant and professional. Always be eager to learn and take initiative. No one wants to work with someone who complains or who does not put care into their work. Whether it’s refilling a coffee pot or writing a proposal, always be pleasant and do it with a willing spirit. You never know who is watching you!
Q: What did you find most helpful about working with The Job Shop? A: Warren and JoJo have been AMAZING! At the time, I lived in NYC and worked through various temp assignments whenever I’d visit home here in SF. The entire Job Shop staff is incredibly accommodating, professional and they want to help you find a job. I am so happy I chose them over the other employment agencies.
Q: What was most challenging about your job search, and how did you overcome it? A: I had a career in NYC and decided to do a complete career change. It can be difficult when you are unsure about what direction you want to take in your career. Persistence, networking and an optimistic outlook makes a HUGE difference as opposed to giving up and seeing your situation as a negative thing. Challenges are an opportunity to grow. I’m very happy The Job Shop helped me solidify what I wanted to do.
Q: Anything else you’d like to add about your experience? A: Many other employment agencies have a very long, drawn out application process. When I signed up for the Job Shop, I began working that week. With hard work and drive, you can do anything! The San Francisco Bay Area has so much opportunity and there IS something out there for you. It’s easy to feel defeated but there’s no better feeling than knowing you accomplished something because you kept trying. Keep going! Everything will work out fine. Allow your family, your friends, and awesome resources like The Job Shop to help you get there!
