Profiling Success: Amy Azzolina

Q: What is your name? A: Amy Azzolina
Q: How did you originally hear about The Job Shop? A: My friend had been placed in his last two jobs through the Job Shop and he recommended them to me.
Q: Can you tell us a little about the permanent position you’ve recently been hired into? Are you excited about it? A: I am a Communications Coordinator at the Wine Institute. I do media tracking and reporting, media and member relations, manage the consumer website, research and prepare information for response to member and public queries and compile and update media lists for press events and conferences.
Q: What do you think most contributed to your success in achieving a permanent position? A: I think the most important part of temping is showing your employers how valuable you are. Being competent and punctual really go a long way. Also, I think it’s really important to get to know your co-workers. Being friendly and forming relationships can help you out a lot. I found out after being hired on permanently, that a couple staff members put in a good word for me with my boss.
Q: Do you have any tips for readers hoping to duplicate your success? A: I think it’s as simple as doing a good job. The temp agency takes care of the hardest part for you: getting your foot in the door. Once you’re in, it’s up to you to show them you can not only do the job, but do it well.
Q: What did you find most helpful about working with The Job Shop? A: Jojo! He went above and beyond. Even though I hadn’t been in touch with him for a month or two, when my position opened up, he immediately thought of me. It was a perfect fit!
Q: What was most challenging about your job search, and how did you overcome it? A: I was shocked at how much trouble I was having finding a job on my own. For months I would go on interview after interview and never get hired. It was really frustrating! That’s why I turned to temp agencies and it really made things easier. It took some time for the right opportunity to come along, but that’s the point; it DID eventually come along.
