Meet the Staff: Stuart Kortie
In our Meet the Staff series we introduce you to the fantastic employees that make The Job Shop function. This week we meet Stuart Kortie, The Job Shop’s Business Development Specialist, and learn what makes him tick.
Q: Who are you, and how long have you been at The Job Shop? A: Stuart Kortie, this is my second time with The Job Shop. The first time I was here for 5+ years and I returned to The Job Shop a few months ago.
Q: What do you do at the Job Shop? A: Business Development
Q: What is your favorite part of the job? What is the most rewarding aspect of it? A: I’ve always enjoyed the team and the clients. The team taught me that you can work effectively without a constant high level of stress (most of the time). Prior to The Job Shop, if I wasn’t feeling stress, I felt unproductive. Another part of the equation is the type of clients we work with which are often professional firms with a creative bend. It helps when you are dealing with clients/people that maintain the same approach to business themselves (most of the time).
Q: What do you think makes for an ideal candidate? A: Someone who has personal confidence without ego. It is helpful to any team/company to have these types of people throughout the organization. This type of candidate is the one described to have the “it” factor.
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to people looking to work with The Job Shop, what would it be? A: Be yourself. No matter where you go or what job you are looking to find, it’ most important to be yourself.
Q: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies and interests? A: Spend time with my family. I really enjoy being a dad and husband. Inside of that bubble, music is an important part of our lives and we enjoy going to the beach.
Q: Do you have any interesting/funny anecdotes about your time at The Job Shop? A: My original “going away” party was held at The Mint. It was one of two times I’ve sung Karaoke and ever since, whenever I hear Jessie’s Girl, I’ve thought of Jojo.
Q: Outside of work, what are you passionate about? A: Life in general.
Q: What is one thing about you that might surprise people? A: I’m an open book if there ever was one so I’m stumped to think a good answer here.
Q: Anything else you’d like people to know? A: I think that about sums it up…
