Meet the Staff: Mike Scaletti
In today’s Meet the Staff feature we meet The Job Shop’s Social Media Manager, Mike Scaletti! Mike has been with The Job Shop for several years now, and loves getting to use the power of social media to tell people about the wonderful work they do!
Q: Who are you, and how long have you been at the Job Shop?
A: I’m Mike and I have worked at The Job Shop for three and a half years.
Q: What do you do at the Job Shop?
A: I’m the Social Media Manager at The Job Shop. That means I do everything from sourcing, selecting, and editing content for our blog and social media pages, as well as planning branding, advertising, and outreach for our company!
Q: What is your favorite part of the job? What is the most rewarding aspect of it?
A: My career track has not followed a traditional path, and as such I have worked many places where I was just showing up for the paycheck. The Job Shop is definitely not one of those places! My favorite part of the job is the sense of community and family I get from my coworkers. As it happens, that’s also the most rewarding part!
Q: What do you think makes for an ideal candidate?
A: I’ve seen a lot of candidates come through the doors at The Job Shop, and the one thing that always sets them up for success is a willingness to approach every opportunity with an open mind an eye for learning
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to people looking to work with The Job Shop, what would it be?
A: Be professional! You’d be shocked how many candidates we have seen that have shown up to interviews in a t-shirt, or worse, just not shown up at all! If you want to make the most of the opportunities presented to you, make sure you remain professional.
Q: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies and interests?
A: I am a complete and utter geek. I paint miniatures, play games of all types, from tabletop war games, to role playing games, to video games and read constantly. When it comes to reading I try to vary between fun reads, usually fantasy, and Serious Literature. I am a big fan of classic Russian Lit, especially Dostoevsky, and of the magical realism genre, like that written by Jorge Luis Borges.
Q: Do you have any interesting/funny anecdotes about your time at The Job Shop?
A: Sitting at the Top of the Mark sipping on Old Fashions, getting massages in Sonoma, discussing world events over wine, in just three years I’ve made so many good memories with The Job Shop. I hope to make many more in the years to come!
Q: Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
A: Politics, food, friends, family and fun! Not necessarily in that order!
Q: What is one thing about you that might surprise people?
A: I was born and raised in San Francisco, and for the most part have lived here my whole life. But that is about to change! My partner and I are moving to Minneapolis at the end of the year in search of new adventures and experiences! We are both excited, and nervous about it, but we can’t wait!
Q: Anything else you’d like people to know?
A: If you have questions about The Job Shop, you can reach out to us on Social Media. I’m friendly and open, and will do my best to help you!
Have a question for Mike, or anyone else on the staff? Leave it in the comments!
