Meet the Staff: Michelle Mamerto
In today’s Meet the Staff feature we meet the driving force behind The Job Shop’s Temp Division, Michelle Mamerto! Michelle is one of the longest continuous employees of the Job Shop, and without her dedication, intelligence, and creativity, our company would not be where it is today!
Q: Who are you, and how long have you been at the Job Shop?
A: I’m Michelle and I have worked at The Job Shop for twenty and a half years.
Q: What do you do at the Job Shop?
A: I’m a Recruiter for The Job Shop’s Temporary Division.
Q: What is your favorite part of the job? What is the most rewarding aspect of it?
A: My favorite part of the job is finding work for our candidates and getting to do this with people who are family, at this point. The most rewarding aspect is hearing how happy both our candidate and client are when we make a great match!
Q: What do you think makes for an ideal candidate?
A: An ideal temp candidate is someone professional, flexible with job duties, has a great attitude and is a great communicator. This answer sounds canned, but it’s true!
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to people looking to work with The Job Shop, what would it be?
A: Just because a job is “just temp” does not mean it won’t help you in your career path. Be open-minded with temping because you never know what you might learn or where things may lead.
Q: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies and interests?
A: I love hanging out with my family and friends, cooking, and listening to and playing music- reading if I have quiet moments. My house is a place where people spontaneously bust out in song at any given moment. I’m an amateur photographer (soon to be pro?) and I’m a perpetual student of voice, piano, guitar, and the ukulele. I’m also the mom to a pretty cool 10-year old girl who is a great student, a singer, multi-instrument musician and member of a semi-professional choir(is bragging a hobby? J ) I volunteer as a Rehearsal Supervisor, Photographer and Social Media Person for The Phoenix Girls Chorus. (GO PGC!) We have a horse named Shadow and two dogs who keep me company while I work: a Chug named Dino Snow (Good Boy Number One,) and a Chiweenee named Tom Selleck (Good Boy Number Two.)
Q: Do you have any interesting/funny anecdotes about your time at The Job Shop?
A: There have been so many funny moments. The Job Shop did karaoke once and someone selected, “Let’s Get Physical” by Olivia Newton-John for me. Jojo and I got up there and killed it, (I mean murdered it) anyway. Sorry, Olivia.
Q: Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
A: My family and friends, music, good dim sum and the quest to find perfect locations for photos.
Q: What is one thing about you that might surprise people?
A: I’ve been called “The Myth” or “The Legend” by my family in San Francisco because they hear about me, but they never see me. I’m a real person! I work from home, in the Phoenix, AZ area, so you may not see me in the office, but if The Job Shop needs a temp at 7:45am, guess who will be calling you?
Q: Anything else you’d like people to know?
A: I’m a Bay Area native and grew up a huge fan of the Giants, Niners, Warriors and Sharks.
Have a question for Michelle, or anyone else on the staff? Leave it in the comments!
