Meet the Staff: Liz Frome
In today’s Meet the Staff feature we meet The Job Shop’s Owner, Liz Frome! As the founder and owner of The Job Shop, Liz has obviously been with the company since it started, 20 years ago! She’s lead us through multiple recessions and two tech booms, and has no intention of slowing down any time soon!
Q: Who are you, and how long have you been at the Job Shop?
A: I’m Liz Frome, the owner of The Job Shop and I have been with them since the beginning! January 1998 and still love it and going strong!
Q: What do you do at the Job Shop?
A: A little bit of everything!
Q: What is your favorite part of the job? What is the most rewarding aspect of it?
A: My staff; we have grown into a wonderful family! Most rewarding is placing the candidates in a position and they have a BIG smile on their face. We have changed a lot of people’s path for the better.
Q: What do you think makes for an ideal candidate?
A: One that is flexible and willing to look at a variety of possibilities. One that sees a bigger picture than just the entry level position they may be interviewing for; they see where they want to be in 3-5 years and realize the company can get them there.
Q: If you could give one piece of advice to people looking to work with The Job Shop, what would it be?
A: Communication is key and will always be. No matter what you should not burn any bridges as San Francisco is still a small community!
Q: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies and interests?
A: Scuba dive, Hike, Golf, truly love to be outside, I love to cook and love to get together with friends and have some good laughs! Laughter is an important part of my life.
Q: Do you have any interesting/funny anecdotes about your time at The Job Shop?
A: We have been saving a lot of them and want to write a book. It is truly amazing when you work directly with hundreds of people each week; the stories that come across your desk. You think you will not top the last crazy story but then you get that call or email and just add another page to the book!
Q: Outside of work, what are you passionate about?
A: I help run a non-profit Golden Gate Lab Rescue. I am passionate about making a difference and getting the word out about spay and neuter and proper dog ownership. I am passionate about spreading the word about giving back as we all have time to help! That is why I made it past of The Job Shop mission to give back to the community you work in!
Q: What is one thing about you that might surprise people?
A: I am in the movie: League Of Their Own.
Q: Anything else you’d like people to know?
A: I had a medical mishap over three years ago. I decided to challenge myself and hiked to 16,000 feet in Bhutan. You truly can do what you set your mind to – just take one step at a time; keep smiling and laughing!
