Meet The Staff: Jojo Varona

In our new Meet the Staff series we will be introducing you to the fantastic employees that make The Job Shop function. This week we meet Jojo Varona, Recruiter Extraordinaire, and learn what makes him tick.

Q: Who are you, and how long have you been at the Job Shop? A: My name is Jojo Varona, and I have been with The Job Shop since 1998.

Q: What do you do at the Job Shop? A: I am a Direct-Hire recruiter but I help out with temp placement and also do some operational work.

Q: What is your favorite part of the job? What is the most rewarding aspect of it? A: My favorite part of my job is finding positions for candidates. It is very rewarding to see candidates get promoted and move up in their careers.

Q: What do you look for in an ideal candidate? A: Someone who is flexible, adaptable to any environment, enthusiastic, and has strong communication skills

Q: What are some common mistakes candidates make? A: Attention to detail – always double check resumes for typos and formatting errors; Answering questions directly during an interview – don’t go on tangents; Play up to their strengths – be confident in their skills; Be nice to the receptionist

Q: What do you do for fun? What are your hobbies and interests? A: I love hanging out with friends, going to see live music, and going out to new restaurants.

Q: Do you have any interesting/funny anecdotes about your time at The Job Shop? A:There have been many colorful characters that have come in looking for work at The Job Shop.

Q: Outside of work, what are you passionate about? A: Great music, good food, good drinks, and good friends!

Q: What is one thing about you that might surprise people? A: I am a pop culture junkie and used to belong to a trivia team. I also collect comic books and have a 35 year old collection.

Q: Anything else you’d like people to know? A: I love meeting people and try to help as many as I can. I try to build relationships with candidates and keep in touch with many even after they have found a job. Even if I am not the person who gets them a job, I want to give the candidates all the tools they need to succeed.
